If you want to make a super OneGreenSmoothie, it’s important to have the right tools. Having tried several options, the below have truly proven to be terrific!
It’s worth it to go for the professional grade despite the hefty price tag. Trust me, you will be glad you did! We use ours several times a day since everyone is at a different level of how “green” their smoothie can be and we also have a child allergic to nuts so his smoothies are always made individually. Cost-per-use has come down to zero at this point. As my friend Armenia said during her OneGreenSmoothie challenge, “I wish I’d made the investment in a Vitamix instead of the cheaper brand.”
One hint, I’d love it if you bought it through my site (using any of the links), but another option is to wait for your local Costco to have a Vitamix roadshow. That’s when the Vitamix rep is there demonstrating how to use the machine. From what I was told by the rep, Costco has one version they sell at the warehouse year round, but they bring in a heavier duty one for the roadshow which they sell for the same price.
Another option is to buy a refurbished Vitamix. I’m guessing they are as good as new at a substantial discount. It doesn’t matter how you get one, just get one!
You’ll notice in all the OGS challenges done at our home, we use silver straws. I can’t stand the waste and pollution from individual plastic straws. In fact, even when we go out to eat, I intercept the paper-wrapped straws so freely passed about. (Yes, I do realize my kids will be in therapy over my greater concern for the environment than their fun). Nevertheless, we LOVE these stainless steel straws.
Here are my two favorite tools for plant based meal prep:
I will do a whole post, maybe several, on my complete obsession with the Insta Pot at some point, but suffice it to say, it has revolutionized our lives. I love that thing so much, I even make beans and rice for our dog now just to have the chance to use it more (and not to kill as many animals, too, of course)! This version is a great option. Personally, I don’t think it necessary to upgrade to the bluetooth enabled one, but if you’re into electronics, knock yourself out!
If you are new to pressure cooking and/or plant based eating, you’ll definitely want to get Vegan Under Pressure: Perfect Vegan Meals Made Quick and Easy in Your Pressure Cooker by Jill Nussinow. There aren’t many gorgeous eye-candy photos, but this will become your go-to reference for the cooking charts alone. The fact that the recipes are scrumptious is just icing on the cake (so to speak:))!
This is the best accompaniment to the Insta Pot. Seriously, throw a bunch of veggies in the pot, steam or pressurize them, stick in the immersion blender for a quick whirl, and bam! Fresh soup, as easy as that! Plus soooooo very much more. There are a plethora of sites run by rabid Insta Pot fans so I won’t elaborate now, just trust me on this one.
Enjoy your OneGreenSmoothies and Plant Based Pressure Cooking with these truly terrific tools! More to come and as always, please share your tried and true terrific tools!
